Plugged In

This week, Plugged In can't decide if this newsletter is small or far away.

Let me tell you a fact: online buying guides are the fucking bomb.

Whenever I've been on hunt for a new product, there’s little more useful (AND FUN!) than filling your sponge-brain with delicious syrup knowledge.

Yet, amidst this sticky glut of mind sharing, I've found one element that's often overlooked: size.

You can find reams and reams of info on what type of product best suits your life (PRO! LITE! ULTRA!), but there’s far less spoken about how the dimensions of a product work for you.

This makes no sense.

Of course, there are articles that make the connection between size and how you're gonna use a bit of tech, but they're much less common.

Here, friends, is where I segue into some shameless self-promotion.

Last year, I got an iPad Pro. I love the damn thing, but I had many sleepless nights (I wish this was an exaggeration) over whether I should choose the 11-inch or 12.9-inch version.

A year later, I did what any totally balanced and normal person would do: I made a video about it.

A plug? Definitely. Weirdly specific? You betcha. But will it help me eat? Well, I’ll let Dr. Dre answer that.

Basically, this is exactly the sorta thing I wanted to see when I was choosing an iPad Pro.

And, even if you're not in the same boat, never forget that all knowledge is good knowledge. Who knows? Maybe you'll be overcome with the urge to get an iPad Pro soon.

If that's the case? Well, cheques in the mail.

(P.S. we're keen to improve Plugged In and hear what you think about it, so head to the bottom of this email to give us your thoughts!)

Apple's earnings call was this week. Here are 4 things you should know about.

FUCK YEAH! Spotify will now actually alert you when a relevant new release drops. No more waiting for that weekly playlist, people.

📱

Uhhh... what's this? A Microsoft phone? That you may actually want? I, for one, simply cannot believe it.

💻

A MacBook Air with a mini-LED screen probably won't appear until 2022. Excuse me while I fling the back of my hand to my forehead and faint like a character in a Jane Austen novel.

A review you’re required to read

Goddamn, I love a good ebike.

But you know what I love even more than that? An excellent ebike.

And that's what the Cowboy 4 is.

I got to spend a week riding around Amsterdam on the brand new Cowboy 4 and, friends, it was an absolute joy.

This is a statement I don't make lightly: the Cowboy 4 is now my favorite ebike.

Hold on one hot minute... is that Tom Cruise?

Oh lord I'm getting all sweaty in excitement about TNW2021 — and you really should be feeling the same.

Why? Because of speakers like Chris Ume. He's the co-founder of Metaphysic.ai, and is widely recognized as the world expert in the emerging field of hyper-real videos.

Yoy may remember him as the creator of the deepfake Tom Cruise on TikTok.

Anyway, you can find out more about the body-tingling TNW2021 right here. Come and hang in Amsterdam.

Here’s a cool thing (also, cya)

You know that feeling where you wish you could wipe your mind and watch a whole TV show fresh again?

Well, that's how I feel about Mare Of Easttown.

This HBO crime show is one of the best things I've watched over the past 12 months.

It's full of twists, intriguing, and impeccably shot. Even better, Kate Winslet puts in a career best performance as the eponymous Mare.

Honestly, I don't want to give too much away or spoil anything, so I'll stop describing it... right now.

What I will say is it's a limited series, meaning everything is wrapped up in seven episodes. Which, friends, is fantastic.

There's little that feels better than having a fully fleshed-out story told in an efficient and stylish way — and Mare Of Easttown manages that with aplomb.

God, I miss it already. Anyone got a brick to brain me with?
