Plugged In

This week, Plugged In is asking you to guess who's back like it was an Eminem video.

Remember the last edition of this newsletter? All the way back on Christmas day in 2021? (Yes, it was meant to be sent out the day before, but I fucked up. What are you gonna do, sue me?)

Anyway, I talked about getting a new Macbook Pro and how the next few versions of Plugged In are gonna be about it.

Well...

I'm a man of my word — even if my word is stupid.

Because I'm always one for  s t r e t c h i n g  out content to make my pathetic life easier, I'm not even gonna talk about using my new laptop this week.

No, I'm just gonna chat about doting on my baby.

I'm writing this newsletter on my work laptop, but don't worry: my new personal machine is close. It's inches away. I can touch it. Lick it, even.

And I refuse to live any other way.

giphy-Jan-06-2022-02-24-39-53-PMThere's a "ring" metaphor in here somewhere.

You know a piece of technology has truly captured your heart when just being around it brings you untold joy — and that's exactly how I feel.

A sideways glance, a gentle brush, the reassurance of its weight in my hands, this is all I need to be happy.

In conclusion, we need to band together and overthrow all these antiquated laws about who can marry what.

Damn, Plugged In is all about series in 2022!

If you stretch your mind back to the last newsletter, you'll recall I hyped up my most played song of 2021: 'Closing In,' by Goat Girl.

After some reflection, I knew I couldn't stop there. I owed it to you, dear reader, to go down the list of my most listened to songs of last year. And go down I shall.

This is for four main reasons:

  1. They all slap
  2. You'll enjoy them
  3. I'll enjoy writing about them
  4. It eases my lazy mind on what to recommend here for a while

I think we can agree, all valid points.

Let's begin then with my second most listened to song of 2021: 'Stellate,' by Samia.

There's just something about the track I can't get enough of. The combination of that 90s-influenced guitar, the stripped back nature of the song, and the vulnerability of Samia's voice just gets me. And damn, does it get me.

Yeah, it might not be an upbeat 'Friday' song, but whatever — it's not my fault when this newsletter goes out.

And if you like 'Stellate?' I'd suggest listening to Samia's excellent album, The Baby.

God, I'm gonna go and spin it again right now.
